CORDES Presence

The U process is another way of solving tough problems, within organizations, societies and within oneself. Central in this approach is the inner place from where we as leaders operate: are we open to what the future brings to us or are we ‘downloading patterns of the past’? We call the state of being open to the emerging future “presencing”. Presencing is a blend of the words “presence” and “sensing”. It signifies a heightened state of attention that allows individuals and groups to shift from the inner place from which they function.

The result of working with the U process is creative, innovative and sustainable solutions for the problems we face. At the same time it’s a huge (transformational) learning experience for the people involved.

 

The process is developed by Otto Scharmer. He has written a beautiful book in which he takes us with him to explain the essence of the theory: ‘Theory U: Leading from the Future as It Emerges’ (Cambridge, MA: Society for Organizational Learning, 2007). For several clients we work in close cooperation with the Presencing Institute (http://www.presencing.com) that he has founded.
